Time marches on…

There has been a non-stop whirlwind of activity in the Newman household, thus the reason for the lack of postings. In most recent history, I have gone on two trips to Albuquerque, gone on a camping trip to Detroit Lake, and put in a flagstone path along the fence. Work has been a pretty high-pressure situation with deadlines approaching, and needed functionality not-quite-working-yet.

Yesterday, I worked on Morgan’s sword and shield I had promised him in the winter. The hardest part of the task is work area. I’m trying to do compound-miters with hand tools, and my work surface is a partial sheet of 3/4″ plywood on a couple of sawhorses. Needless to say, my accuracy is not particularly high. I do feel like I made pretty good progress though. My 10 degree angle cuts seem to mate up pretty well, and the biscuit joints I put together seem pretty strong.

The cats knocked Lisa’s footstool I had been making off the freezer in the garage. This had the unfortunate effect of dinging the corner of it. I spent part of yesterday trying to make it look better by sanding the corner to remove the ding, and sanding the other corners to compensate. I sanded it down a bit more to rough up the polyurathane and applied a coat. I need to apply another coat tonight. Although I think Morgan and I are going to have to go shopping for Lisa’s birthday.

I’m going to try to be more diligent about updating this page. Two months with no activity is a bit lax. I have been busy though!
