Yahoo Messenger 8.0 has a really annoying bug

It looks like I’m not the only one that has run into this issue. I’ve had to stop running Yahoo Messenger 8.0. It has a bug in that it steals focus from all applications running, including its own windows. If you minimize it when you are signed in, it pops right back up. Even if you aren’t signed in, the window keeps popping up in front when you switch to another application. I have noticed that when you aren’t signed in, you can minimize the window and it doesn’t appear anymore.

I’ve turned on and off (it was already off) the “keep yahoo in front of other applications” option. It doesn’t help. The odd thing about it is that it seems to be some interaction with another application. It seems to happen less often if I launch YM before other applications, although it has started happening after it has been running for a bit. I tried to submit a defect report through the menu option, but the main window kept stealing the focus from the defect report window. I had to keep clicking in the defect window between each letter I typed (including spaces). It took me over 10 minutes to type a couple of sentences. In the link I mentioned above, someone has been seeing this issue since September, and I couldn’t find anything on the Yahoo site about it. Are you listening Yahoo???! You are losing users over this issue.

I tried to login as with the invisible checkbox checked and i was able to type this out without this nagging problem.. Can’t say this is a workaround till you do the same and see if it works out .. :)

    Good luck

Unfortunately, this didn’t work for me for very long. Yahoo! sure doesn’t seem to care about this issue at all. I’ve sent them support messages, which they said would be answered in “24 hours” and never got a response. I’m going to uninstall messenger. It is a memory pig anyway.

I found that there is a new 8.1 version on the messenger website. Yahoo has a tradition of silent releases and no upgrade notes. Here is another example. So far, the 8.1 version has no traces of the problem.

I am having an issue with YM version 8.0.1.0.209. As soon as I log in a pop up tells me that Yahoo Messenger has experienced a problem and needs to close. I have to relog. It then says: Yahoo messenger had to close suddenly and plug ins were not loaded. It then usually runs all right. I have re-installed YM a dozen times. Kind of frustrating.

I’m running Messenger 8.1.0.239 and have only today started having this extremely annoying issue (YM steals focus literally every 1 second). I want to switch to MSN, but nobody I know uses it. So I wonder if anyone can tell me if it’s possible to import YM contacts into MSN?

I have a client with the same issue. His is on Windows Vista, with the release of Y! Messenger that I downloaded today for him, and the Logitech QuickCam Messenger. I’m going to contact Yahoo and Logitech for a fix for this issue.

    Use Yahoo Messenger BETA:

    http://beta.messenger.yahoo.com/download.php

The problem appears to be fixed in that version

I never had this problem until I installed my Logitech QuickCam Pro and software. Oh well, I was warned not to install the Logitech drivers or software.
